How does eyeshadow get its colors?

Depending on the product, eyeshadow can get it's pigment from special dyes, natural foods such as beets- pinkish colour etc. But mostly from artificial sources from the manufacturer. Sometimes, if you read the back of the make-up it might say the different pigments used.
