What is the difference between a dilation and curettage and an ablation?

Dilation and curettage (D&C) is a surgical procedure that involves the widening of the cervix and scraping of the uterine lining to remove tissue, often for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes, such as treating abnormal bleeding or miscarriages. Ablation, on the other hand, refers to techniques that destroy or remove tissue using heat, cold, or other methods, often to treat conditions like heavy menstrual bleeding. While both procedures can address uterine issues, D&C focuses on tissue removal, whereas ablation targets tissue destruction without necessarily removing it.
