It was on a hill called Palatine,Êone of seven hills that surround the Tiber river about fourteen miles from the sea, that a Latin tribe, who called themselves Ramnes, settled on and gradually through time the name changed to Romans. There is no recorded literature as to when exactly this tribe settled in, but tradition has place it at somewhere around 753 BC.
