Energy passes from the sun to an earthworm the same way it does to most organisms: through the food it eats. Earthworms eat vegetation and the fungus that grows on vegetation and thus are getting the carbohydrates, proteins and fats stored by these organisms which originally came from the sun's energy being trapped by photosynthesis.
