Why are most apex predators endangered if they have no predators?

Most causes of extinction and destruction of animal life dating as far back (if not further) as the extinction of the Mammoth have been initiated or perpetuated by human beings engaging in exploitative and destructive conduct. In this case, hunting, habitat destruction, and depletion of food sources are ways in which humans endanger apex predators, and indeed all other animals.
