How long can it take a bird to starve?

Depends on the bird. Small birds, particulary hummingbirds, can have very fast metabolisms, and will starve within hours if they're not finding food. Some even have to go into something more like hibernation than sleep in order to make it through the night.

Others, like penguins, can easily go weeks without eating and still remain healthy.
