What is the best horse breed for a first time horse owner?

No one breed is any better than the other for a beginner. What matters is that the horse is calm and knows it's job. The horse may not be flashy or young, but it is smart and takes care of it's rider. The horse should be trained in either general riding or the discipline you wish to learn and have reasonably smooth gaits.
