What is the difference between the gold and silver Newberry awards?

The Newbery Medal is awarded to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children, whereas the Newbery Honor, or "silver" award, is given to runners-up or notable books that also merit recognition for their Excellence in children's literature.
