The shooting occurred in 1994. His second wife shot him during an argument. The bullet went through both lungs and his heart. He never pressed charges because he believed that she never meant to pull the trigger. Adkins stated that their divorce was closure enough for him. He believes the only reason he lived through the incident was because he lived so close to a hospital.
