What is a piece of firewood called?

A piece of firewood is commonly referred to as a "log" or "split log" when it has been cut and split for burning. Smaller pieces may also be called "kindling" if they are used to start a fire. In general, any piece of wood designated for use as fuel in a fire can be called firewood.
