Where does metal come from and what is it used for?

Metal ores are found underground, and are mined to produce metal. Metals have many different uses that are specific to the individual metal - copper is used for wires due to its good conductivity, iron is used for magnets as it is magnetic, and steel (analloy consisting mostly of iron) is used for building as it's very strong.
