The rocks in the Allegheny Plateau primarily date from the late Paleozoic Era, around 300 to 250 million years ago. This region features sedimentary rock formations, including sandstone, shale, and coal, which were formed during the Carboniferous period. Some of the rocks may also contain older Precambrian formations, but the majority are associated with the geological processes of the late Paleozoic.
