What does dispersed mean in science meaning?

Dispersion is the separation of white or compound light into its respective colors, as in the formation of a spectrum by a prism.

This occurs in rainbows when the light from the sun goes into the raindrop, and the light refracts through it. It then reflects again, then disperses into a specific area of colour, along with all the other raindrops to create a nice rainbow.
