There are three common causes of cloudy water. The most common is a (white water)that is found in newly set up tanks. This is caused by billions of very fine air bubbles that are suspended in the water. These bubbles will eventually rise to the surface and dissipate back into the air leaving the water clear. The next most common is (grey water) caused by billions of bacteria in the water poisoning it. This is caused by not having a cycled filter running permanently to convert the poisonous ammonia into harmless Nitrate and then doing sufficient water changes to keep the water good. The basic rules of successfull fishkeeping are "1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water. Every tank must have a permanently running cycled filter. Every tank must have at lest 50% of its water replaced every week." The last common form of cloudyness is (green water)caused by billions of algae spores suspended in the water. To stop this happening you will need to have more plants growing in the tank and provide less light.
