What makes a plot intriguing?

Interesting stories are ones that are about something the writer and reader cares about. Write what you enjoy writing, and the story is automatically more interesting!

Also, stories with action and dialogue are more interesting than flat descriptions. Instead of telling the reader that time was running out, show them the characters rushing about trying to finish whatever they're doing and talking nervously about whether they're going to do it before the end.
