How much meat is consumed annually in the US?

The amount of meat consumed in the U.S. is hard to calculate because of the types of food grouped together in the "meat" category. In 2012, meat companies produced more than 26 billion pounds. This is just what was produced in the U.S, not what was consumed or wasted.
