Why are elevators so awkward?

Elevators are so awkward because there are nearly always people who fart or look really serious and people with babies who start crying, or the elevators are blasting meditating or relaxing music from the speakers. Or you are the only one in there, or you're with your ex girlfriend/boyfriend and there is no music to break the horrible silence.
