Why did we humans hunt the English wolf?

People in America hunted wolves because they were killing their cattle and sheep, and breaking fences. Therefore, when they saw a wolf, they shot it. Many Americans came to hate wolves and would kill a wolf even if it wasn't presently doing anything wrong.They have been reintroduced to protected areas like Yellowstone National Park.
