What year did the Civil War begin and in what states?

The US Civil War began in 1861. The beginning of this armed conflict was in South Carolina. The US Supreme Court ruled in 1862 that the war actually began in July of 1861 when US President Lincoln addressed the US Congress to ask for funds and soldiers to put down the Southern rebellion.
