Why do cooling systems need reverse flushing?

Suggested every two years. The reason being is simple; like in a stream in the woods, the segments or containments settle in one direction. by pumping water in opposite of normal direction, with a garden hose and radiator hoses off. The segments and contaminants are freed up by opposition to normal flow over the years.
