Why are x-rays used on a patient with a broken tibia?

X-Rays allow the surgeon and doctor to determine the type of fracture and the best way to treat it. For example in the case of a Tibial Plateau Fracture it is very important to allign the bone fragments to for the health of the knee joint. Improperly aligned fragment may cause additional damage to the joint and may result in sustained pain for the patient.
