Duties of a reporter

There are really two ways to approach this question. First, the noble profession of news reporting is dedicated to the observation of significant events and the accurate reporting of those observations to the general public. Second, a reporter is also an employee and as such, has an obligation to do what his or her employer wants him to do. Ideally, these two factors do not conflict, although in practice they sometimes do.
