In Beowulf, there is a reason for the plot and a more literary reason why the treasure was spurned by the Geats. On one hand, the Geats recognized the treasure as being cursed and the cause of Beowulfâ??s death. From a more literary perspective, the underlying theme of this poem is not so much riches and power than it is honor, glory, and heroism.
