How do x-rays work at the airports?

With X-ray baggage scanners, a small dose of X-rays is used to illuminate the luggage for inspection. Computers analyze the transmitted rays and analyze luggage properties. Displayed on the screen is a computerized image that indicates which items are dangerous (colored differently).
