Do you need to use a water heater when keeping yabbies?

If you are in an area where they live ie Victoria, NSW or Qld and they are not going to either get too hot (over 85F (30C))from the sun or too cold (frost) they should be OK. They still should have a cycled filter running because they do produce ammonia by being (breathing, pooing etc) in the water.
