Was John Lennon a humanitarian

Basically yes, although he had a hot temper and was in a number of fights and violent confrontations when he was younger. He physically abused his first wife Cynthia (who he divorced in 1968), made some very provocative statements to the press, and could be threatening and bullying to anybody he felt was being too intrusive into certain aspects of his private life.

But he was opposed to torture and oppressive regimes, supported Amnesty International, was against the death penalty, and was really a kind man at heart who hated to see injustice and discrimination of any sort.
