William Wallace was a Scottish knight and a central figure in the Wars of Scottish Independence against England in the late 13th century. He is best known for leading a rebellion against English rule, particularly after the death of King Alexander III of Scotland, which led to a power vacuum and increased English encroachment. Wallace's most famous victory came at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297, where his forces defeated a much larger English army. His resistance became a symbol of Scottish nationalism, although he was ultimately captured and executed in 1305.
