how did the paleolithic people communicate? They had a hyoid bone which meant they had a voice box like ours and a brain like ours and could therefore speak as we do. It is likely they had a simple proto-language, where a few of the basic Words may be similar to what we have today. But that was supported by a long historical development of emotional sounds - shouts, laughs, pain, calls, imitations of animals, wind, sea, plus body language, plus hand language.
