Why does Beowulf use no weapons against Grendel?

1. his hands were a weapon in itself. it is said that each hand has the power of 30 hands.

2. he was proud. didnt want to use the weapons unless he had to. he had his honor and pride in not using weapons.

AGAIN...wrong on #2. Weapons were ineffective against Grendel because he had magic protection against any weapon made by men.
