Will car smoke if it has a bad head gasket?

Yes, normally it will blow white or grey smoke that smells sweet. But it can be that it does not smoke if the coolant is not entering the combustion chamber. In that case the oil level will be overfull and there will normally be a grey foamy substance on the underside of the oil fill cap. Also you will be loosing coolant with no apparent leak.
