Why does computer screen go from bright to another color unexpectedly?

The cathode ray tube in the monitor is probably on its last leg. Could be days, months, maybe even a year if your lucky. But you probably need to plan on replacing the monitor in the near future. Soon the picture will actually start shrinking if it last that long.
