Your auto insurance comprehensive coverage would pay for damage to your auto.

The only way that the neighbors homeowners policy could offer coverage is in cases where the tree in question was a known hazard and if you have notified the neighbor of such in writing. Coverage may be offered if the neighbor knew the tree was a hazard. This may be hard to prove what someone knew. If a storm knocked down a live tree then the neighbor has no liability as it is considered an act of nature. In this case you better have physical damage on your auto policy. The neighbors and your homeowners policy may pay for the cleanup of the tree but this depends on the policy and regulations in your state. For full disclosure, I own and operate a small Independent Insurance Agency in Gordon, Georgia and have for 22 years. I also worked as an agent for a direct writer for 3 years before that.
