Tree ferns take 5-20 years to mature. After that, they can be quite long-lived in the proper environment. They're found in the tropics and subtropics. The most cold-hardy, and therefore the best known, is the Tasmanian tree fern [Dicksonia Antarctica]. It can live some 400 years.
