Fuel filter location for 1987 Volkswagen cabriolet?

It is located in the trunk next to the spare tire. you'll need:

1. to take out the carpet in the trunk

2. locate the circular cap

3. remove the three screws

4. take off the lid

5. unhook the fuel lines and the power cable

6. Voila! you now have access to the elusive fuel pump!

good luck getting it unscrewed. I'm still struggling with that now.

Answer #2:The fuel FILTER on 1980-1989 Cabriolets is located in the engine bay, behind the air box, along the driver's fender.

The answer above regarding the fuel pump is partially incorrect: The in-tank transfer fuel pump is located below the rear seat, NOT in the trunk. The main external fuel pump is located beneath the car, just ahead of the right rear wheel.
