When were seatbelts made law in the 80's?

In the United States, the first law requiring the use of seatbelts was enacted in New York in 1984. This law mandated that front-seat occupants of passenger vehicles wear seatbelts. By the end of the 1980s, many other states followed suit, implementing their own seatbelt laws to enhance road safety.
