This information is listed in your owner's manual. Don't have one, get one. Dealer, salvage yard, e-bay, google Search.

Answer

I don't think it's in the owners manual. The most complicated mechanical answer in there is "how do I change a tire".:-) For anything else, all they say is "go to your authorized VW repair center"

Better off getting a Bently manual for you car. I'm sorry, I don't have an answer for you. I'm looking myself. I have a 2003 Jetta, it's fairly simple for it, but I think the NB is different.

Push the center piece, on the dash, forward until it unsnaps and exposes the screws for the passenger side piece. Take the piece off and you will see the filter bracket down in the dash. Remove the filter and replace with new one.

AnswerBuy a new cabin filter. They often come with detailed instructions for your make, model and year along with pictures to guide you along. The VW New Beetle is quite simple once you get the little plastic clips.
