Tropics as iron rusts due to the the moisture present in the air.In Antarctica there is no or very little moisture whereas in the tropics the amount moisture is high.

=====================

The formation of rust requires not only iron, but also oxygen and water. The most common form of rust is FeO(OH), which, when it occurs naturally, is called goethite.

4Fe(s) + 3O2(g) + 2H2O(l) --> 4FeO(OH)(s)

Rust which forms under water is Fe(OH)3. The dehydrated rust found in arid regions is Fe2O3.

Despite the abundance of oxygen in the interior of Antarctica, little rusting occurs because of the lack of water. The interior of Antarctica is a very, very dry place.
