Did paul McCartney really die in 1966?

No, he's still around today and playing in concerts. Towards the end of The Beatles a roumor started that he died in a car crash in 1966 but it's not true. It all started when they made the cover for Abbey Road he walked across the street barefooted and people thought that meant he was dead and got replaced. It doesn't make any sense.
