My friend has this phone and it took her at least 15 min to open it. All she did was push/slide it as hard as possible in the direction of the arrow on the back. That's all I know.
In the instructions it shows you the incorrect way to push the cover. Above the camera view window is a little arrow, Hold the phone with the back vertical to you and slide the cover down. If you are holding the phone horizontally then you are holding it incorrectly. A thanks to my 16 year old son for helping out!!
