What is the function of nethiazide?

It's a thiazide diuretic.

Thiazides block the reabsorption of sodium and chloride ions in the kidneys (and also increase reabsorption of calcium ions) to result in increases in urinary output.

They are used primarily to counter hypertension and edema.
