It's a lot easier that I expected it to be. The good news is you need no tools whatsoever. This comes from experience with my 1995 model, but I suspect it's exactly that same. It's most likely the same on a Nissan Bluebird as well, on which the 100NX is based and shares many components.

Open the bonnet, and behind the headlight, you will see where the wires are connecting into the light fitting.

First, you should be able to see a roundish, rubber covered plug which connects to the three pins on the back of the bulb. This just pulls free; you might have to wiggle it a bit. You should now be able to see the pins of the bulb.

Second, you unscrew the black plastic surround. It comes off in a counter clockwise direction, and there's an arrow moulded onto it to show you how to remove it.

Third, you should now be able to remove the rubber seal that surrounds the bulb. Mine had a little tab on one side to help you pull it out.

Finally, you should now be able to see the two springlike clips that hold the bulb in place. They clip behind the plastic housing about halfway along their length, and unclip by you pushing the end in and around the bulb.

And that's it! Out comes the bulb, and then you simply reverse the steps to put it back together.

Make sure you have the bulb the right way up, clip the clips back in, push the rubber seal back around the new bulb, screw on the plastic surround and plug the connector back in. Job done!

Working all this out: half an hour.

Replacing the bulb once I knew how it worked: less than a minute.

Good luck!
