What could be the green spiky thing that got stuck in your foot?

Almost certainly a burr. Burrs are seeds. The spikes are there in the hope that an animal (or you) will pick it up and carry it far afield, where it will drop off and start a new plant. Just pull it out. It's VERY rare that burrs penetrate deeply enough on humans to become problematical.
