The Beretta M9 was officially adopted by the United States Armed Forces in 1985. It was developed from the Beretta 92 design, which was introduced in the late 1970s. The M9 served as the standard issue sidearm for U.S. military personnel for several decades. Its production continued until it was eventually replaced by the Sig Sauer P320 in 2017.
