TheNorth Berwick witch trialswere thetrialsin 1590 of a number of people fromEast Lothian,Scotland, accused ofwitchcraftin the St Andrew's Auld Kirk inNorth Berwick. They ran for two years and implicated seventy people. The accused includedFrancis Stewart, 5th Earl of Bothwellon charges ofhigh treason. The "witches" held their covens on the Auld Kirk Green, part of the modern-dayNorth Berwick Harbourarea. The confessions were extracted bytorturein theOld Tolbooth,Edinburgh.
