The above figure is only the general population of Australia (which is now 22 million). The Australian Bureau of Statistics does not give the figures of actual Australian citizens, but it will obviously be fewer than the actual population.

There is currently no way to measure how many Australian have multiple citizenship (that is, they are Australians, but have also taken up citizenship in Another Country). There is also no accurate way to measure the number of Australian citizens within Australia, as the census papers required to be filled out every few years are too limiting on that question. The question asks "Australian citizen or not", which does not take into account temporary or permanent visitors.
