Try hand signals!

I am going to elaborate just a bit by saying you train a deaf puppy just like any other puppy except where voice would be used, sign language is placed. You can create your own signs or you can use signs that are already used by the Deaf community. Most signs that require two hands can be used with only one hand so that it is easier for the dog. There are several ASL websites out there that you can get signs from.

In fact, if you know about dogs, you know that they do not depend on their hearing as much as we do. They rely much much more on their vision. I'd say about 75 to 80 percent. That is why the slightest mucular movement of your cheek or eyebrow is like a lighthouse in the dark to them. In dog shows, people are often amazed by trainers who make their dogs do things without a Word. With only discreet finger movements. Like those who pretend their dog can count. Truth is, it is way more easy because you fall into their natural communication method. The hardest part, is for you to put your instinct aside.
