How much is head gasket repair on a 1999 Subaru Forrester?

This same question was answered last week. The only answer that counts is the answer from the person offering to do the job. You don't repair head gaskets, you replace them. My local Subaru dealer (Lansing, MI) charges $1300 for this job. Hal's (Sparta, NC) charges about half that. Of course with a major job like this, there are other things that should be done at the same time that may add significantly to the cost of the job. --Ken
