Today, many people are looking for ways to create a lesser impact on the environment. Some people achieve this end through purchasing a hybrid vehicle. Others may have switched to low energy light bulbs and recycling. One way gardeners achieve this end is through implementing Organic Gardening techniques.

Organic gardening is a kind of gardening that has two goals. The first is to leave less of a negative impact on the environment. The second is to restrict the addition of things into the garden that are not produced naturally and are not biodegradable.

One of the most harmful things people do while gardening is spraying pesticides. These pesticides are made up of chemicals. Once sprayed, they can harm wildlife. They can in fact be lethal to many animals including pets. Pesticides can also make their way through the soil and into the ground water. Once the ground water has been contaminated, it can become detrimental to the health of anyone who relies on an underground water source.

Organic gardeners instead take a different approach to combating pests in the garden. They only implement completely natural means to control pests. For example, instead of using synthetic chemicals, an organic gardener will use a pesticide only made up of naturally grown ingredients. For example, one such pesticide is made up of garlic, water, onion, and cayenne pepper. Such a concoction can ward off nasty bugs from plants and vegetables. It will also not have any lasting negative impact on the environment. People will also not be at risk from ingesting these chemicals when they eat the fruits and vegetables that grow in the garden.

The second major way that organic gardeners benefit the environment is through their choice of fertilizer. Again, inorganic fertilizers can contain chemicals that can be harmful to animals and the environment. Instead, organic gardeners only rely on fertilizers produced naturally from animal manure. This manure is often in fact superior to inorganic fertilizers in how it helps rejuvenate the soil. Using this kind of fertilizer, one will be able to produce better crops over a longer period of time.

Over all, organic gardening is simply a much more natural method of gardening that lessens the risk of possible negative side-effects for people, animals, and the environment.
