Rule of thumb: When it comes to generators, you get what you pay for.

Chinese generators are generally poorly made and have a very limited life span. I have seen reports that these manufacturers putting UL labels on the generator and they are not UL listed. Also, I have read that many of these generators are incorrectly wired and are not up to code. I have done alot of research on these because I was in the market to buy a generator. Also, if you have a problem with them, good luck finding support.

If you want a relatively inexpensive backup generator, then buy a Coleman, Porter Cable, or Dewalt. They have Tecumseh engines and will perform reasonably well. They generally have a 1000 hr life and are not suited for continuous use for days. They are good for sporadic use provided you run them every month or so to make sure the carbs do not gum up. Add Stabil to the gas.

If you want a quality, well priced generator that will last beyond 1000 hours then go to Northerntool.com. Buy one of their brand names with the Honda Engine. Research them and you will find that they are high quality and well priced.

If you want the absolute best quality then go for a Honda or Kubota diesel. These are rated for 1000's of hours of use and they are very reliable and are well suited for continuous use for days and days.

Hope that helps and try to avoid the huge mistake of buying one of those shiny Chinese generators for $600. You will regret it. portablegeneratorsreview.com
