The biggest problem is that these two terms have almost become interchangeable. Historically," bobtail" was simply coverage for an owner/operator not pulling a trailer and not under dispatch; deadhead, a term rarely heard anymore, was coverage for when the owner/operator was not under dispatch but pulling an empty trailer.

Non-Trucking Liability is the combination of the two, again when the unit is not under dispatch, direction or control of the carrier leased on to, not used in the course of business, not used in a speed or racing contest, and not used in the commission of crime (typical policy Wording).
